Rebrand for photography and videography owner, including a full website redesign, logo & collateral rebrand, and scheduling/advertising setup. The foundational idea for the designs was to keep it simple and rooted in bold, modern colors and design while not alienating a more traditional clientele.
At Chicago Music Exchange I was hired as an Email Designer. I moved up to Lead Designer then to Brand Manager—at my time there, I’ve redesigned and launched the website twice, designed countless promotional and marketing materials, and designed and project managed for every major product release or design. It is truly a unique store within the world of music retail. All 📷 by Sam Porter
As a designer and illustrator at P.S. Greetings I was able to create and design (many times from scratch) new card lines, package design, stanchions, and display materials for the company.
A competitor with Hallmark and American Greetings, P.S. Greetings holds a high standard and produces high quality (American made when possible) products carried in stores nationwide.
Music has always been a huge passion of mine. I ventured into the record business on my own by producing music I appreciate under my own imprint, Buck Records. It is an ongoing project which I only hope to expand. This project gives me the opportunity to play many roles and experiment with the format and music in general.
As a comedy club in downtown Chicago was growing and changing hands they needed a bold new brand redux with a classic 'Chicago comedy' feel to it. I had previously worked lights and sound here and it was my night-time home for quite a while. Such comedians as Cameron Esposito, Brian Babylon, Marty Derosa, and Jim Belushi were regulars.
For this re-brand, I wanted a flashy feel with an accessible sensibility. The style of photography was very sharp and full of contrast and color, so without trying to detract from the photos themselves the new brand emphasizes a focus on negative space and sharp contrast. The re-brand includes full website design for web and mobile along with collateral package emphasizing video and photo media.
Throughout my career I've had a huge variety of projects but always enjoy stretching my imagination to create a great image. I work digitally, traditionally, and use a combination of both for my drawings. It all depends on the subject and usage.
Throughout my career, I try to utilize my own skills as much as possible. I have done photography for magazines, fine art, design work, and for fun. Though sometimes direction is editorial or composition based I try to use the same philosophy as in design. Beauty through simplicity.
Some of the most fun projects to take on are one-off freelance work! I love designing logos, record covers, shirts, or sundry other design and illustration projects and am always willing to work on something at a time-frame and a budget that works for both of us.
